Question:
Why do deciduous trees shed threir leaves before winter
unlike evergreen conifers? Surely this is a waste of resources.
Replies:
An adaptation for the winter cold, snow, and low soil available water. They
do reallocate much of the resources (e.g., nutrients in sap downward)
before leaf fall.
