What trends can be observed with tree leaves in relation to latitude?

Replies:
Generally, tree leaves are smaller (e.g., leaf area) at higher latitudes (further north) and higher elevations (altitudes) because of mainly climatic factors (e.g., temperature). However, the same plant/tree species would have to be compared across the range because of differences in growth patterns among species.
