X or -X

Question:
This must be the simplest question, but it stills stumps me.
Which expression is smaller:
x or -x
It seems like it would depend on the value of x each time you do it.
Replies:
In terms of a number line, -x is smaller, for all positive values of x. In terms of magnitude only, they are the same.
