How do you know if whether a compound is bactericidal or bacteriostatic?
Replies:
If the compound kills a target outright, it has the -icidal suffix. If it arrests their growth and reproduction for a time, but then the organism recovers, it has the -static prefix. At a low dose, -icidal compounds can be -static and vice versa!
